I had a good but not great time. It was hot as hell, felt very overcrowded, entirely too few food vendors, and sound was not great at the second stage. There were some great moments, particularly with Devo and Public Image Ltd. But I'm a little less interested in This Ain't No Picnic now, and I'm most likely not going to Just Like Heaven. What can I say, the polo fields have me spoiled...

I'm assuming that you went Saturday. I saw some of the same complaints on reddit, as well as apparent scarcity of water stations on the grounds, high food prices, and a horrendous traffic flow situation causing an interminable amount of time for people to park. Did you experience those problems as well? Supposedly things ran a lot smoother on Sunday, and the sound issues on the Sad Girls and Lost Boys stages were resolved. Parking was apparently a breeze that day as well. Perhaps it took the staff and contractors a day to get things right logistically at that location since GV hasn't had any event at Brookside for a few years. I would think that knowledge and experience would carry over for JLH and TANP festivals. As we've seen with Coachella, GV is usually pretty good in addressing issues so that they don't recur at future festivals.

I also heard that security was pretty lax with the entry screenings and that you could sneak a whole bunch of things in within opaque bags, backpacks, pouches, or pockets. They would do searches only if metal detectors were set off.

I still wish I could have been there if the timing and other issues had worked out even though I have seen Blondie, The Psychedelic Furs, The Church, and PiL all in the past five years.

This festival is coming back for another year. It is apparently the weekend following Just Like Heaven, essentially flip-flopping last year's order of the GV one-day festivals at Brookside adjacent to the Rose Bowl. An announcement should be coming soon.

Goldenvoice sent out a social media blast today with an animation showing the next festival date of May 20, 2023, captioned "Cruel things come to those who wait.." BTW, the artwork does resemble that of Cure albums...hmmmm.

Looking at tour routing, I think Molchat Doma is a good possibility for this festival and would fit in with its retro post-punk aesthetic. It's also an AEG tour.

Also, Love and Rockets based on IG post (scenicworld posted it on reddit as she rarely stops in here anymore): https://www.instagram.com/p/CnsvGZQpTDY

The 2023 lineups is out. It appears that Cruel World has a tad more post-punk than new wave and goth this incarnation. While the prediction of Love and Rockets and Molchat Doma being on the lineup were spot on, it turns out The Cure's aesthetic was just a tease, much the same way Goldenvoice used Soulwax's music as a bed for hyping the 2022 Coachella announcement. Echo and the Bunnymen and Gary Numan are back on the lineup after bailing last year.

Passes are going on sale this Friday, January 27 at noon PST via AXS. Registration on the CW website is required for early access. GV is having two tiers of GA passes and is introducing a GA+ category that is similar to its companion JLH festival the weekend beforehand. The pricing ifor GA Tier 1 is the same as last year (how nice of them) but is $10 more for GA Tier 2, and the VIP price has increased $50. Here are the fees:

New for 2023 and unlike the JLH fest, Cruel World is offering pass+hotel packages: https://www.fuseexperiences.com/even...ampaign=CW2023. They go on sale a day earlier on Thursday, January 26 at 10 a.m. PST. This might not be a bad deal for those of us coming out of town since the price of hotels in the Pasadena area is quite expensive.

Also, CW appears to be using the same two-stage configuration as JLH this year rather than the three for the last festival. Here is a basic map of the grounds:

Early access registration code is PASSENGER for anyone getting passes for this.

Update: After 25 minutes in the queue, I got a Tier 2 GA pass. GA Tier 1 was NA. GA+, VIP, and Clubhouse were already sold out.

2nd update: Just checked again...it seems that GA Tier 1, VIP, and Clubhouse are coming back available again intermittently. AXS--your ticketing process sucks! It's no better than Ticketbastards!

This is happening today. Three stages are going to be used. Adam Ant won't be able to perform this year and has been replaced by Squeeze. Here is the schedule:

The festival was stopped and the grounds were evacuated last night in the middle of Iggy Pop's and The Human League's sets due to lightning being in the area and spotted near Mt. Wilson. Siouxsie never got a chance to perform. Everyone left in an orderly fashion, but the parking/traffic and rideshare situation became a complete cf--not the safest scenario of people being out in the open on a golf course when lightning is around. The rain though didn't reach Pasadena until well after the scheduled end of the festival.

Anyways, GV has put out this message overnight for makeup sets today for Iggy and Siouxsie at the same Brookside at the Rose Bowl venue:

Click image for larger version Name:	FwpMWszaUAMGCKJ?format=jpg.jpg Views:	0 Size:	235.4 KB ID:	6750

While this is a great makeup gesture by GV, I feel bad for everyone who traveled from elsewhere to attend and can't stick around or has other plans.

Edit: GV has now posted on the Cruel World website that parking will be free today, but there will be no shuttles running.

Edit #2: Tickets are going to be repopulating into the AXS app for the makeup performances. Set times have been released. Gary Numan is doing an encore, Iggy gets another full hour, and Siouxsie will now play an hour and a half.

For those who couldn't make it out for Sunday's makeup sets, GV/AEG is offering partial refunds.

We are deeply sorry that some of you did not experience Cruel World the way in which we intended. For those of you unable to attend Sunday’s performance, we are offering partial refunds on your festival pass. Please email support@axs.com no later than June 1, 2023 for instruction.

Really impressed by GV for all their Sunday efforts. Sounds like it was a mess to be sure, but they clearly did everything they could with incredibly short turnaround time when it would have been acceptable for them to do nothing at all.

Yeah. They did make good on the lineup poster headliners. I seriously doubt if Live Nation would have done the same.
